Futuristic Mountain Cube Lodge Sits High in Slovakian Mountains
Design firm Atelier 8000 envision their ‘Kežmarské Hut’ as a self-sustaining lodge which would be available to high-altitude adventurers in the Slovakian mountains year-round.
The energy-independent lodge’s odd orientation is not simply for aesthetic reasons; it also serves to ensure that no matter the viewpoint, three of the cube’s sides will be visible providing travelers with easily legible readings thanks to the contrasting shadow and light tones created.
It’s exterior panels are comprised of aluminum and glass, as well as photovoltaics to assist in powering the remote retreat. During milder weather, an outdoor patio wraps the building on two sides.
Inside, the Atelier team has kept things crisp, with simple smooth lines created by glue-laminated timber beams of red spruce. View more interior and exterior photos of the Slovakian mountain retreat in the photos below.
